The Munich based artist Raphael Wintter was taught by his stepfather Johann Michael Mettenleiter, who became engraver at the electoral court in 1790 after Winter`s natural father, Joseph Georg Winter, died. In 1809, Raphael was appointed first lithographer of the lithographic institution of the royal state council. In 1818 and 1830 he traveled to Rome.
