Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. One of several editions of this dictionary first published in 1681 and long considered a classic reference work. Volume 1 is [4], 500 pages and Volume 2 424 pages. In contemporary full leather binding with gilt tooling to spine and red title piece, edges powdered red. Typical wear to head and tail of spine and corners, joints cracked but strong, very sound and clean internally.

Small 4to; a two volume set in contemporary speckled calf with morocco labels; Volume I 502 pages including the Index; with the engraved frontispiece by Duflot dated 1828 Volume 2 412 pages including the Index; both volumes; the joints are cracked but the boards are holding well; title pages printed in red and black, each with a copper engraved scene in vignette.~~The Italian-French dictionary by the French linguist and lexicographer who italianized his name -- when he came to Paris he pretended to be Florentine. Giovanni Veneroni (1642-1708) was a French linguist, lexicographer, and grammarian. It is believed that he was a native of Verdun and later Italianized his name. He went to Paris, where he pretended to be from Florence, and had a great success as teacher of Italian and became secretary and interpreter of the King. He published an Italian-French dictionary with the title Dictionnaire italien et françois (1681), and a Grammaire italienne (1710), which were long time considered classical reference works and went through numerous editions.
