Illustrated with full-page black and white plates plus occasional illustrations within the text, fold-out map to rear of volume two. Bound in publisher's full green buckram with gilt blocking, red title panel, top edge green, dust-wrappers variously priced at £10 10s. to £19.50. No inscriptions, contents clean. A few contemporary news-clippings tucked in (offset to endpapers). Some light handling and marks, a few neat tape strips to reverse of volume one wrapper otherwise a bright clean set with unfaded spines. The definitive edition, comprising nine volumes of the diary, the Companion volume and the Index. When new, these were staggeringly expensive books.
