Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Nils Hogner (illustrator). 1st Edition. 1st edition with matching dates and no additional printings. Orange binding is smooth, clean, and fresh; book quite square and sound. However there is a half-inch area of insecting to spine head, some tanning to endpapers, and a 1.5" stain to bottom edge of pages. (Affects bottom edge only; not page interiors.) Endpaper maps browned. Wonderful wraparound jacket is priceclipped with lightly faded spine, 1" tear plus a shorter one; chipping at spine head. Light, large stain to rear flap. "Having said all that" : it comes across well.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. This is a first-edition copy of the American author Richard Summers' 'The Devil's Highway' (1937). It is a historical romance for children about the Italian missionary and explorer Padre Kino (1645-1711) and his route towards lower California (this route was known as 'the devil's highway', hence the title). Summers based the book on Kino's own memoirs, although takes artistic liberty with the material. Although it was originally intended for children, this book would be of most interest to adults interested in early to mid-twentieth century children's literature and illustration. The book is full of illustrations by the American artist Nils Hogner (1893-1969). Book condition: The book is in good condition. It is rare to find this book with its wonderful dustcover. The pages are all present, but the book is slightly foxed throughout.
