Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. FAIR / NO DUST JACKET. Limited edition number 399 of 500. Text clean and unmarked, but pages are dampstained about 1/4" at top edge. Pastedowns dampstained and slightly foxed. Illustratrated with 122 examples of initial letters dating from circa 1500 to circa 1929. Blue cloth boards decorated with gilt borders and an initial C in gilt at front, gilt borders and lettring at spine. Boards scuffed and dampstained, corners rubbed and bumped, spine top and tail rubbed. Joints and hinges good, Binding firm.

Bottom of covers bumped and small 1cm tear in cloth on verso. Cloth worn through on front corners, else mildly worn. Blemish on front paste down. Library embossed stamps on prelim pages and then occasionally throughout. Overall tight and bright. With an extensive introduction on the history and printing of initial letters and their design and use.
