The front free endpaper has an affectionate inscription from the author to J.A. Nicoll. The blue boards have a little bumping to the corners and some fading to the edges. There is a small surface tear to the rear panel next to the spine - the jacket also has a small hole in the same area. The page edges have water staining in several places on the top, bottom and fore edges. The pages are otherwise clean and unmarked however. Jacket has chipping and staining to the edges and corners with some loss at the top and bottom of the spine. The rear panel is a little browned. Jacket illustration by Nan Denson. First printing.
