Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Octavo, decorative boards and orange cloth lettered in gilt; pictorial dust jacket, with slightly faded spine. First edition; affixed to the front endpaper is an autograph letter from Armstrong to Lois Walcott Kellogg Jessup, approximately 50 words, presenting her with the volume. ---- Lois Jessup (1898-1986) worked tirelessly for the American Friends Service Committee, the U.S. Children's Bureau (preparing reports on children in Europe during Second World War, and the United Nations, advocating for women's rights around the world. She married Philip C. Jessup, a judge on the International Court of Justice and veteran U. S. diplomat, credited with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. Jessup's work was frequently discussed in "Foreign Affairs," which Armstrong edited for decades. A fascinating autobiographical account with a distinguished provenance. Inscribed by Author(s).
