Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. 1st Edition. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. The original price of $2.75 is still present on the bottom of the front flap. DJ shows scuffing and soiling along with some chipping and tearing along the edges. Cloth boards underneath are cl…ean though there is some rubbing and spotting, mainly along the edges. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. The front pastedown contains a personal bookplate but that is the only markings found in the book. No signatures, no handwriting, no library markings. Pages are clean but the end pages and pastedowns show foxing and toning. Last end page is still uncut and page 401 is a small triangular chip of the upper outside corner which is still attached the page 403. This is usually caused by the reader separating the page that was not fully cut by hand. First edition thus with single date of 1943 appearing on the copyright page.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. New Edition. 2008. lixi, 314pp. Frontispiece portrait of the author. B&W map. "The fourth novel in James T. Farrell's pentalogy chronicles Danny O'Neill's coming of age. Recording his reactions to initiation into college life at the University of Chicago and the imminent death of his grandmother…, one of his primary caretakers, Danny realizes the value of time and gains confidence in his writing abilities. As he works on his first novel, he prepares to leave his family, his Catholicism, and his neighborhood in Chicago behind for a new life as a writer in New York. Charles Fanning's introduction provides context and background to the situation and focuses on Farrell's career accomplishment. Author of the Studs Lonigan trilogy, James T. Farrell (1904-79) was a native of Chicago, famous for the range and depth of his realistic portraits of the city's various populations that he drew from his own experiences and keen powers of observation." Wear to corners, otherwise in very good condition with no inscriptions.
