Biografie: Barbara Mertz verbrachte ihre Schul- und Studienzeit in Chicago und schloss 1952 mit einem Doktortitel in Ägyptologie ab. Da in der Nachkriegszeit jedoch Stellen für Ägyptologinnen rar waren, konzentrierte sie sich in den kommenden Jahren auf ihr Familienleben.
