Manuscript / Paper Collectible
Condition: Good+. On offer is a fascinating and intriguing manuscript relic of Christian faith being a handwritten c1770s manuscript copy of "A LETTER WRITTEN BY OUR BLESSED LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST AND FOUND UNDER A GREAT STONE SIXTY FIVE YEARS AFTER HIS CRUSIFIXION". This story and its variations of the teachings of Jesus appeared in several forms throughout Europe in earlier times, and it would appear that someone had secured an English copy published in London, and was perhaps preparing this as a copy for publication in Boston. However there is no record of it ever being published in America at this time but the rag paper is undoubtedly 18th Century and was copied as a keepsake. The letter states that keepers of a copy handwritten by the owner will protect homes and homeowners from pestilence, plague and lighting. Eight pages, size 5 x 7¼, folds, handmade, rag paper, string bound at one time, normal aging with minor stains, overall G+. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Manuscript.
