Hard Cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. This antique hardcover book is bound in dark green cloth boards with black cover lettering and reverse gilt spine lettering. Some cover soil, edgewear; owner's stamp on title page; most inner pages clean. This is a later printing of the 1879 edition (Wright III 740). Published anonymously, this book was written by Christine Chaplin Brush. 228 pages; approx. 5"x8". From a review in Warner's "The Library of the World's Best Literature" from 1917, the book "is an example of the lightest kind of fiction, handled with grace and skill, and in a happy spirit of comedy. The originality of the book lies in the choice of the hero, the Colonel's Opera Cloak, a large blue coat lined with scarlet and having gilt clasps. This cloak is the property of Colonel St. John, a Southern gentleman ruined by the war.".…
