The Colonel and his Lady represented the life of the Old South at its best after the Civil War and are here brought to life at Hampton Hall on the Santee river in South Carolina. Included are anecdotes of Lee, Lincoln, Custer, Jackson and Pickett. 189 pp. CONDITION: Hardbound beige boards, red text title and graphic on cover and spine. Soiling to edges and spine; sound binding. Blue illustrated endpapers with owner name are mildly soiled. Text is clear and unmarked. Price-clipped dust jacket feature illustration and title in red, blue and white against yellow background. Edge tears, soiled, stains within jacket. Very good. Full refund if not satisfied.

Light foxing and soil to text block edges; slight darkening to endpapers at gutters; still a tight, Very Good or better copy. In the original dustwrapper, unclipped (priced $1.50 at base of front flap), a shade sunned on spine panel, rear panel somewhat soiled on lighter portions, else just light edgewear, Very Good. A sentimental memoir of post-Civil War childhood on a South Carolina plantation, under the guidance of the author's father, retired Confederate colonel Henry Middleton Rutledge.
