Pencil drawing heightened with white, 9.5 x 6.5 inches, with frame line and title neatly executed by hand. Mounted in conservation materials ready for framing overall size 17 x 14.5 inches. A very accomplished drawing depicting the eastern end of the beach with Marine Parade on the left and in the middle distance. A fishing boat is drawn up on the shingle and a bathing machine is tethered beyond. Two figures appear in the foreground. To the left are the cliffs, upon which sits Dover Castle, these receding into the distance to Langdon Cliffs and beyond. This drawing was among a small number that we purchased from an album of drawings of places scattered throughout England. They had all been carefully mounted on card and exquisitely hand-titled. None of the drawings was signed but the album was identified as the work of E. Gilbertson. PRINTS/MAPS DOVER PRINTS/MAPS.
