First Edition
Softcover. Condition: Very good-. First Edition (thus). Octavo, 275pp., illustrated. A fragile volume, about very good, with notable chipping to the wrappers and some loss to the spine ends, but internally fresh and clean. Faint, thin dampstain to the bottom margin on the last half of the page block, not approaching any text. Contemporary ownership signature on the front wrap. Union Iron Works was a major producer of mining, railroad, and other industrial and infrastructure equipment; the largest in California in the mid-to-late 19th century. Profusely illustrated, with diagrams, charts, and graphs which detail product specifications. Romaine notes just the 1866 edition, which is the earliest holding in OCLC, though that volume is half as long, at 146pp. In total, there are about half a dozen holdings from 1866 to 1878, with just one record for this 1872 edition (SMU).
