"Chinook" is a warming wind from the ocean; a strong one can melt a foot of snow in interior regions short of a day. The lead poem is an ode to this wind that farmers hope for when frost descends before harvest is done; the last lines read: "For like an angel in disguise/ Mild Chinook comes and Winter flies/ And so when front is in the heart/ Let Chinook Wind its warmth impart".
