Written by Alberto Ruz Lhuillier (1906-1979), the Mexican archaeologist who in 1952 uncovered the tomb of the Maya ruler Pakal beneath the Temple of the Inscriptions at Palenque, among the most significant discoveries in Maya archaeology.
