The Cayuse initially accepted the introduction of white missionaries and settlers in the regions, but that didn't last long. From the massacre of the missionaries at Waiilatpu in November of 1847 through much of the 1850's, the Cayuse were a hostile and difficult tribe, conducting open warfare with the U.S. Army. A fine copy. Dust jacket is rubbed with moderate wear to edges and corners. Signed by John A. Brown.
