Caught in the Act chronicles one Englishman's experience smuggling East Germans into West Germany by way of Hungary. Peter and Claire (an East German escapee herself)are eager to attempt the transport after meeting with a mysterious Mr. Schwartz, who instructs them on their task. They succeed at first, but Peter is eventually caught with his human cargo. Peter Dupre's memoir describes the omnipresent police force and lack of freedom. It details the excitement, fear, and paranoia involved in intrigue and describes the conditions of various Hungarian prisons during the 1980's.
