Milkau war ab 1897 für den Preußischen Gesamtkatalog verantwortlich und wirkte an der Erstellung ?Preußischen Instruktionen? mit. 1921 wurde er Generaldirektor der Preußischen Staatsbibliothek in Berlin, nach seiner Pensonierung Honorarprofessor für Bibliothekswissenschaft an der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin wo er auch Leiter des von ihm begründeten Bibliothekswissenschaftlichen Instituts war. - Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt, Einband berieben. - Unikat mit besonderer Provenienz und reichen handschriftlichen Ergänzungen.
