It all begins when Gladys Doyle secretary to best-selling author Mauvis Meade, loses her way and is obliged to seek shelter overnight in a remote mountain cabin. In the bleak light of the next morning, Gladys finds herself marooned - with a corpse! Ever a champion of lovely ladies inn distress, Perry Mason promptly offers his services. But, very shortly thereafter the District Attorney is demanding Mason's arrest on charges of interfering with a murder investigation and suppression of evidence. Furthermore, the only witness who can clear his innocent client is not permitted to take the stand. If only Miss Meade hadn't seen all, heard all, and told considerably about the Los Angeles rackets, perhaps the State would not have literally thrown the book at Perry Mason, but they did. And the celebrated lawyer, with his accusstomed skill, thorws it right back.
