Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A UK 1st Edition, 1st Printing hardback copy indicated on the copyright page with no further printings mentioned. THIS IS PATRICK O'BRIAN'S FIRST BOOK- WRITTEN UNDER THE NAME 'PATRICK RUSS' AND ILLUSTRATED BY HARRY ROWNTREE. - The book is in a good condition for its age. Red/ o…range coloured boards with black titles to the front and spine. Inside is a beautiful, coloured frontispiece illustration of Caesar fishing, with a number of black and white illustrations through the remainder of the book. - The boards are in good condition, but the spine has faded to a lighter colour, and this fading continues to the edge of front board. - The page block is stained green at the top (as issued) but this has gained a worn look over time. The side and bottom of the page block are both sun-aged, as to be expected of a book of this age. - Internally, all pages are present and there are no inscriptions or tears. General ageing of the paper throughout the book as to be expected. The only notable blemish being an abrasion to the top right of the front free end paper where it appears a sticker has been removed taking the top layer of the paper with it and leaving the abrasion. However, no hole has been left in the paper. Also a small indentation above this abrasion where a pencil name or price has been erased. - Overall a good, complete copy of this rare book. Harry Rountree (illustrator).
