Hardcover. pp.iv, 72, [10] with b/w. text illus. throughout. 8vo. Hardback. Five small spots, possibly old scorch marks, to c.8 leaves o/w. contents fine. Original pictorial boards rubbed to extremities o/w. vg. Harding 324. Scarce. Early edition written by W. Busch and 'done freely into English from the German' by Rev. William Charles Cotton. Rather than 'an accurate translation.Cotton wrote his comic tale to fit Busch's drawings.the resulting book is both a comic tale and a commentary on Cotton's latest views on beekeeping - notably upon the new bar frame hives which were becoming popular' (Smith).
