Internally vg, no owner's marks, lightly foxed prelims, halfinch split in back endpaper at hinge. Tiny old bookseller label on back pastedown. First English edition of this 1930 Norwegian novel. By Nobel Prizewinning author. It is a continuation of the novel The Wild Orchid and focuses on the moral dilemmas and conflicts arising from conversion to Catholicism. In strongly Lutheran Norway, the author herself experienced virulent anti-Catholic feeling after her own conversion to Catholicism in 1924.
