Good+/ very good A robust copy of the journalist-farmer's reflection on English farming in the post-war era, suggesting that it "may find its future in a happy blend of [modernity and tradition]", in a nice example of Asgeir Scott's fitting dust jacket; unusual signed. Adrian Bell (1901-1980), a Suffolk-based farmer, was a significant contributor to rural or land literature, and is perhaps best known for his trilogy of novels Corduroy, Silver Ley & The Cherry Tree (1930-32), and for being the first Times crossword compiler. Asgeir Vale Scott (1920-19??) was a designer and illustrator, who had a successful commercial career. He had studied at the Slade, (1937-39; 1945-46), making this an early commission for the newly minted artist.
