Decorative paper covered dark gilt boards with titles to upper board. Rubbing at the spine ends, corners and edges. There is a rubbed area to the bottom rear panel where a sticker has been removed. Despite this the colour plates are all in fine condition and beautiful. Book is in very good condition. Reprinted edition with 8 additional plates. Made, printed and bound in Germany by K.G. Lohse. 24 plates with minor toning to edges which add to the character. 10 pp of text. Plates depict fox hunting, steeplechasing, racing, angling, shooting, game birds, waterfowl and shorebirds. Includes work by Henry Alken (1748-1854), Robert Pollard (1755-1838), James Barenger (1780-1831), F.C. Turner and George Stubbs (1724-1806).

Boards. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. A Golden Ariel Book. Gold pictorial boards. Introduction and 16 colour plates. The covers have a few marks. The text is mostly very good; however, one plate has a small tear and crease to the margin and another whilst complete has a 4.5 inch tear. Reasonable as a reference copy, but not a collector's item.

With colour plates depicting fox-hunting, the work is edited and introduced by John Cadfryn Roberts and features prints by the such artists as Henry Alken, Robert Pollard and F.C. Turner. With descriptions parallel to each plate, the volume provides a noteworthy insight into the vestiges of the landed classes during an era in which such sports were deemed acceptable. In pictoral paper wraps with original unclipped dustwrapper and decorative slipcase. Externally very smart. Some light rubbing to the extremities only. The dustwrapper has a detached but present front-flyleaf, as well as a torn rear one, and is chipped and marked. The slipcase is age-toned and marked to boards, with wear and discoloration to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean throughout, aside from some offsetting to the endpapers. Near Fine. book.
