A very nice copy of the first edition, this copy inscribed to A. Percy Fitt / from Albert Wilson / June 14th, 1899. Chapters on anatomy, functions, alcohol, marriage, religion, insanity, crime. The 24 leaves of plates print thirty-seven illustrations.

Condition: VG. 1st ed. vi+157+24 plates with facing explanatory text; a few brown flecks Green cloth with gilt fr. & sp. lettering, no obvious faults. to half-title and end paper, half-title inscribed 'with the Author's Compliments to Capt. & Mrs Calvert, otherwise an exceptionally bright and unworn copy but marred by light ink underlining and marginal lines, particularly up to p.27 and intermittently thereafter, e.g. pp.138-142 on criminality. A very attractive copy nonetheless of this popular exposition of brain function and its relation to psychological topics and psychopathology including crime, religion and education.
