Classic mid-century design and communication text, "Graphic Communication" by William J. Bowman, published by John Wiley & Sons in 1968. Part of the Wiley Series on Human Communication, this volume bridges technical communication and visual design, offering insight into layout, typography, visual systems, and the effective presentation of information. Notably designed and illustrated by Bowman himself, the book carries a strong period aesthetic, with clean modernist layout principles and instructional clarity that still resonates with designers, educators, and collectors of vintage design literature. A solid crossover piece for those interested in graphic design history, communication theory, and late modernist publishing. Hardcover in very good condition with light wear to boards. Interior is clean, unmarked, and tightly bound. A sharp, usable reference and collectible design title from the late 1960s. Hampstead, 4 May 1883. Carl Haag (1820-1915) was a German-born painter who became a naturalized British citizen, and court painter to the duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He is known for his Oriental subjects. He was born in Erlangen (Bavaria), and was trained in the academies at Nuremberg and Munich. Haag practised first as an illustrator and as a painter, in oil, of portraits and architectural subjects; but after he settled in England, in 1847, he devoted himself to water colours, and was elected associate of the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1850 and member in 1853. He travelled much, especially in the East, and made a considerable reputation by his firmly drawn and carefully elaborated paintings of Eastern subjects. Towards the end of his professional career Carl Haag quitted England and returned to Germany where he died in Oberwesel.
