First Edition
Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. edition by Eric Devine. Contains an original contribution by Ernest Hemingway entitled "On the Blue Water" which originally appeared in Esquire Magazine, April 1936. This most interesting of stories actulally outlines what would later become The Old Man and the Sea. Hanneman Bibliography, B25. While this title occaisionlly appears, it seldom has a dust jacket and is a very difficult Hemingway item to add to any collection. The book is fine and bright without the usual sunning to the spine, but it has an ink inscription on the front free endpaper dated Christman 1937. The dust jacket can be described as very good minus, with some chipping to the crown of the spine and at the edges. The flaps are unclipped but the price has been marked out with a black marker. Still, after looking for this title for over 20 years, I can appreciate how hard this is to find in acceptable condition with a dust jacket.
