The front free endpaper has been removed and there are tape marks to the front and rear endpapers with a number in pen on the front pastedown. The front and rear pastedowns also have a little surface damage where labels have been removed. The boards some surface staining and fading to the spine. There is a spine lean and the page edges are browned. The pages are slightly browned with quite heavy browning to the half-title page and the final page of the text. Small number to the title page and there are a few small stains through the book but the pages are otherwise generally unmarked. No jacket. First printing.

The dustwrapper is not price-clipped, showing the original 7s 6d price to the inside front flap. The dustwrapper is in attractive condition with wear and creasing to the edges, fading to the spine, and loss to the spine ends (see pictures). The book itself has a little bumping and fading to the spine ends (see pictures). Light browning to prelims. Internally clean and free of inscriptions. Binding sound and square. A very nice example of the first printing in the original dustwrapper.
