Illustrated throughout with full-page and in-text b/w drawings by the author. This copy with a water stain to the bottom half of the spine and the lower edges of the boards which curiously imparts no staining and only very light rippling to the contents and dust jacket. (Picture available on request). The book is otherwise bright and clean in a near-fine dust jacket which has just light fraying at the extreme spine tips, a few tiny abrasions top the spine and light rubbing to the extremities. This copy INSCRIBED BY BOTH MARY AND CONRAD BUFF on the half title. A 1947 Newbery Honor Book.
