With selections ranging from ancient Egypt, the Bible, Milton, Haiku, the Victorians; up to the modern masters like Rilke, Yeats, Neruda, and ending with James Wright, this collection certainly lives up to its claim to be from many ages and many cultures. Mitchell is best known, of course, for his many scholarly translations (or "new versions") and most of the translations in this work are of his own doing. The title page carries a signed inscription by Mitchell: "To May, with best wishes". A fine copy, without the usual remainder mark, in a very near fine dust jacket with just a slight curl to top edge. Inscribed by Author(s).
