Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Stated Second printing. Eight pages of photographs. Signed and inscribed by Jack Paar to Ann Sulzburger, the first cousin of Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, the long-time publisher of the New York Times (I bought the book directly from her home in the town I live in a go…od number of years ago.). The inscription reads: 'To Ann, Best Wishes, Jack Paar' (see photo). You can see the covers of book in the photos. They are clean. There is a light bit of color fading off the top edges. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. There is the usual crinkling at the spine ends. The cover edges are in very good shape, no rubbing. The blue of the two top ones is a little sun lightened. The corners are in excellent shape, no rubbing. The top page edge is blue. There are a number of small spots where the blue is lightened. The middle and bottom page edges look very good. The inside covers and end papers are a light blue. They look very good. All of the pages are in very nice condition. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances soiling. I'm not seeing any conspicuous creasing, no placeholder creases, no turned-down corner creases. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And Mr. Paar's signed inscription represents the only writing to found anywhere. The pages are solidly bound from beginning to end. The covers are solidly bound as well. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It's in nice condition, no conspicuous soiling, a few superficial scratches, a tiny bit of scuffing just off the bottom edge of the rear cover. The white flaps are in excellent condition, perfectly clean. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. My Saber Is Bent is a humorous memoir chronicling Paar's turbulent tenure hosting The Tonight Show, as well as his global travels, his high-profile feuds, and his run-ins with world leaders, including an international incident filming near the Berlin Wall. In Spain he fought a bull. The memoir details interactions with political figures including John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Willy Brandt. Throughout there's a blending of behind-the-scenes entertainment industry stories with sharp cultural observations. Paar had a self-deprecating sense of humor and liked to present himself as a weary victim of what he named 'Paar's Law'—the idea that trouble was always following him. He was known as the 'midnight maverick' of late-night television. He had a candid, combative style as host of The Tonight Show, showing little reticence about saying whatever was on his mind, and seemed indifferent to the impact on his ratings which were falling. He threw himself into political rows, endured press attacks, and managed to create international headlines. Inscribed by Author(s).
