8vo., Second Impression, some occasional marginal annotation in pencil, fore-edges lightly spotted; original blue cloth, cloth, gilt back, covers lightly faded, joints very lightly rubbed at head and tail of backstrip else a very good, sound copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter browned, creased and rubbed at edges. Published in the same year as the first edition. One of the few first-hand accounts of the administration by the British Army of its forces in the field during WWI. The author served successively with the 51st [Territorial] Division and the 17th [New Army] Division before taking up positions at Corps and General Headquarters levels. His insights are shrewd and sympathetic; an important contribution to the literature of the Western Front. Very scarce, especially in the dustwrapper. Enser, p.395.
