These reports will appear from time to time as the material and findings warrant. The over-all responsibility will rest with the members of the editorial board, who were greatly assisted in the preparation of the present volume by Dr. E. D. Joseph, its editor. It seemed appropriate to the editorial board that the first publication of this series should contain the first panel section undertaken by the Kris' Study Group. As coincidence had it, this first panel was the last of the meetings of the Study Group over which Ernst Kris presided. Following his death came the second panel presentation, one which had been planned prior to his death, but which was presented at the meetings directly afterward. The editors chose to present both panel reports which were planned under Kris's direction in one volume, and to include in this first monograph an appreciation of Ernst Kris and a history of study groups and their place in the development of psychoanalysis.
