Illustrated throughout with photographs, plans, facsimiles, etc. Account of the beach companies of the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts who made a living salvaging wrecked vessels and their cargoes, for which they drove a hard bargain, but also manned the lifeboats. The appendix lists the beach company vessels. Although about East Anglia the feats of heroism of the Beachmen and their lifestyle was much the same as the 'Heroes of the Goodwins' and the comparison is interesting.
