Some of the poems covered in the chapters is as follows: The old pond, the mountain path, autumn in Kiso, wisteria flowers, Quail, suma in summer, the shepherd's purse, this road, the morning glory and the butterfly and many other poems. Oseko was a Japanese tour guide who spent seven years writing this definitive text of Basho. This edition includes translations of 330 of the poet's writings into English, and provides useful grammatical and interpretive hints and references for their interpretation.
