Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. Illustrated by Ardizzone, Edward (illustrator). First Edition. Crisp, clean pages, if gently toned throughout; no owners' marks; the full red cloth cover shows modest shelfwear at spine ends and a patch of fading at the top front, otherwise sound and attractive. The jacket is heavily worn, reassembled within a clear archival sleeve to preserve as much as possible; there are open tears at the backstrip and edges, fading and toning to all panels, and a small scratch at the lower front, as well as chipping at the free corners and some small interior tape repairs, yet the illustration and cinematic titling remain charming. vii, 126pp. A storied book, as the first edition of its predecessor ("The Local") was destroyed by shelling, and this sequel required much updating for postwar circumstances.
