Boards rubbed and dusty, light inkstain to the rear board, a couple of crayon marks to page 15, gift inscription to the front free endpaper (which explains the origin of the inkstain on the rear board). Overall, this copy is in good condition. Limited to 250 copies.

First edition thus. Colophon states "of this book 250 copies were printed for Thomas Nast Fairbanks by the Marchbanks Press in December, Nineteen Hundred and Thirteen." A lovely little privately printed volume.

A collection of Early English poems and treatises, and French and Latin poems, on the subject of manners and meals in the 'olden time'. The work is intended as an educational work. Edited by Frederick James Furnivall. Furnivall was one of the creators of the 'New English Dictionary'. He also founded a number of literary societies on early English literature. With sixteen plates to the front. Errata slip bound in before the title page. In a half crushed morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, with some rubbing to the spine and boards. Two institutional labels to the tail of the spine, and evidence of a label being formerly adhered to the spine. Institutional labels to the front pastedown and to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot, mostly to the first and last few pages. Institutional stamps to the reverse of the plates. Very Good. book.
