The Prince of Wales) addressed to Sally, the note reads as follows: "I wondered whether you + your family might like to try this Xmas cake from East Germany which was given to us by the East German ambassador for some reason! As we are going to Windsor for Xmas I would far rather it was eaten up in the North of England! Initialled "C ". The East German Ambassador to the UK at the time was Gerhard Lindner, who held the role from 1984 to 1989. Interestingly, during research into the German Democratic Republic's (GDR) security apparatus after the reunification of Germany, it was revealed that Lindner had worked as a secret informant for America's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) under the codename "Hans Reichert".…

8vo. 1 p. An Autograph Note Signed, a draft for a telegram by King Charles (then Prince Charles, H.R.H. The Prince of Wales), undated; however the content of the letter indicates July 1976. To Mr. Riley Smith, Wills International Polo, Smiths Lawn, Windsor, the note reads as follows: "My very best wishes from Montreal to all the organizers of the Wills International Polo Day. I am sorry not to be at Windsor, but an alternative equestrian event has tempted me away. I hope it will be a most successful day. Charles". An enthusiastic Polo player himself, King Charles enjoyed attending the annual Wills International Polo Day event held in Windsor. The year prior, in 1975, he had attended the event with Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia. King Charles understandably did not attend the event in 1976, as he was supporting Princess Anne, who was participating in the 1976 Summer Olympics being held in Montreal. Princess Anne became the first member of the British Royal Family to compete in the Olympic games, riding the Queen's horse, Goodwill, in the three day equestrian event. Princess Anne sustained a concussion halfway through the course, however she re-mounted and finished the event.…
