K, Gallup of Troy, N.Y. who had written to request Ballou's autograph.: "Dear Sir--I enclose you the autograph which you desire & am happy to gratify you in this matter. Yours very truly/ M.M. Ballou". Clean and bright, light mailing folds. Maturin Murray Ballou (1820-1895) was a Boston born and based writer and publisher. His career began in the newspaper trade in the 1830s and he authored a number of children's books published in the 1840s. He was co-founder of "Gleason's Pictorial Magazine" (later changed to "Ballou's Pictorial Drawing Room Companion') a regional competitor of Harper's Weekly. He was also the first editor of the Boston Daily Globe. He traveled the world in 1882 and over the next decade and more wrote a number of travel books.…
