    Condition: About fine. 2pp., pen and ink on paper with the embossed seal of the United States Consulate of London. Folio. A manuscript by John Mitchell, Notary Public of London, certifying to the signature of the Mayor of London "at foot of the annexed Affidavit and to the Exhibit on the List of debts," to which William Lyman attests "that Mr. John Mitchell, who hath signed and sealed the foregoing certificate is a Notary Public duly admitted and sworn residing and practising in this city." Also signed by John Mitchell, W. Shackley, and Joseph Venn, with the embossed seal of John Mitchell and an embossesd five shillng tax stamp. William Lyman (1755-1811) was born in Northampton, Massachusetts to Captain William and Jemima (Sheldon) Lyman. After graduating from Yale College in 1776, Lyman served as a militia officer during the American Revolution and an aide to General William Shepard during Shay's Rebellion. Lyman served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and State Senate before being elected to the US House of Representatives from 1793-1797. In 1804, he was appointed Consul of the United States in London, where he died at his post, in 1811. He is buried at the Cathedral at Gloucester in England. 2pp., pen and ink on paper with the embossed seal of the United States Consulate of London. Folio.
