Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. This is the first of a series of fourteen books about four children in the Lockett family and their holiday adventures. It was written in the early 1930s, and reflects an England between two world wars. Originally published by Jonathan Cape, this is the undated Children's Book Club edition. The Children's Book Club, located at 121 Charing Cross Road, London, was a prominent book subscription service run by the famous Foyles bookshop. Illustrations and endpapers are by Harold Jones. Previous owner's signature to the fly leaf but otherwise this is an unmarked copy, still tightly bound. Slightly grubby boards commensurate with age, and there is no dust jacket. More photographs available on request. Please note that if ordering from abroad, any customs charge will be the responsibility of the buyer. All proceeds of sale go to LOROS, a Hospice Charity serving Leicestershire and Rutland. Harold Jones (illustrator).…

Rear panel jacket review from The Manchester Guardian reads, "August Adventure - about a long and difficult trek in a caravan - is excellent. One of its merits is that it is long, and even children who are shockingly quick readers will therefore get many hours' pleasure out of it." Very good indeed in near very good dust jacket, with slight nicking and some edgewear. Front panel of jacket in good order showing four children siting on a gate eating apples.…
