Tagli riccamente dorati. Antica nota di possesso nobiliare alla prima carta bianca che attesta l'esemplare come appartenuto a E. Pio di Savoia. Esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima edizione di questa divertente opera satirca illustratata da Charles Amédée de Noé noto con lo pseudonimo di Cham (Parigi, 26 gennaio 1818 Parigi, 6 settembre 1879) su testo del noto giornalista e direttore di teatro francese, Auguste Lireux (1814 Rouen - 28 mars 1870). Cham, di nobili origini, suo padre era Conte di Noé e Pari di Francia, nonostante una naturale predisposizione per la matematica, preferì fin da giovane di frequentare le botteghe dei due celebri pittori, Nicolas Toussaint Charlet e Paul Delaroche. La sua opera "Histoire de Mr. Lajaunisse", pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1839, una storia ideata come un susseguirsi di immagini sequenziali sulla scorta dell opera dello svizzero Rodolphe Topffer, è considerato il primo albo a fumetti francese. Quelle qui presentate sono una serie di opere caricaturali e satiriche dedicate a vari avvenimenti o gruppi sociali come la celebre Esposizione Industriale del 1849 (con le caricature di numerose invenzioni e novità qui presentate per la prima volta), le vacanze dei politici, i cacciatori, le teorie sociali Proudhoniane, l autunno (con varie vignette di caccia) e la primavera (con le corse dei cavalli). Qualche sporadica fioritura sparsa, comunque buon esemplare marginoso in solida legatura secondo Ottocento mezzo vitello scuro, dorso a nervi con titolo oro. Edizione originale di questo fortunato testo di mordace satira politica nei confronti dell'intera Assemblea Nazionale francese, stravolta negli aspetti grotteschi grazie alle efficaci illustrazioni del caricaturista Cham (Paris 1818-1879), probabilmente il più acclamato del proprio tempo e all'apice della propria carriera anche preferito a Daumier. Molti suoi lavori apparvero anche in Inghilterra su The Punch o nel Puppet Show. Le critiche più feroci sono rivolte in chiave antisocialista dopo il prevalere delle correnti conservatrici in seguito all'approvazione del suffragio universale diretto e anche critiche nei confronti del debole apparato statale che portò al rientro al potere da parte di Napoleone III il 2 dicembre 1851.
