SYNOPSIS: This book is a self-contained course in problem-solving. A logical exploration of the nature of problems is followed by very practical advice on how to tackle every stage of solving them. The various methods suggested are clearly and authoritatively explained and every stage is illustrated by numerous interesting examples taken from real-life situations. Each chapter ends with a summary of the points made and a selection of exercises is provided so that the reader can practise applying the concepts and methods outlined. Everyone who takes notice of the ideas in this book will gain immediate benefit. Although written primarily for the general reader and the student, it will have a wide appeal to business executives and managers interested in improving efficiency. Dr. Keith Jackson's first qualifications were in engineering, and after National Service in REME he went to the University of London to study occupational psychology. In his first post as a psychologist he researched the skills of pilots in the Royal Air Force and the effect of the working environment on their performance. He continued his aviation career in BEA where he investigated problems of control and communications in airline management, setting up a Psychological Studies unit for this purpose. As a result of the experience of teaching airline managers to tackle their problems in a scientific manner, he changed over his interests from the environmental aspects to the personal aspects of work and spent several years in the fields of manpower planning, manager development, and personnel research. In 1972 he joined the Administrative Staff College at Henley to teach and undertake research into management and problem-solving. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
