The basilica lies at the site of St Pancras' tomb in the Calepodian cemetery. The first structure here was an oratory. The cemetery around his tomb grew, and Pope St Symmachus (498-514) built a basilica here. He also had a hospice for pilgrims built adjacent to it. Pope Honorius I (625-638) rebuilt it. The present basilica is that of Honorius, with some changes from the 12th and 17th centuries, and major repairs from the 19th century; the church was partially destroyed by the Garibaldians in 1849.This exquisite Architecture Print shows a remarkable drawing of Tuscan Renaissance Architecture.
