    Antique print, titled: 'Graculus Perspicillatus', Spectacled Cormorant Handcoloured crayon style lithograph on wove (vellin) paper. Description: This attractive and rare print originates from the sumptuous work 'The new and heretofore unfigured species of the birds of North America', published 1866-1869. Of this work only 200 copies were printed. Lithographic printing by Bowen & Co. of Philadelphia. Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous lithographer after J. Wolf. Daniel Giraud Elliot (1835-1915) was an American zoologist and the author of the described work. He was a founding member of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the American Ornithologists' Union, and the Societe Zoologique de France. He used his great wealth to create sumptuous books with color-plates, with texts written by himself. Condition: Very good, given age. Margin edges browned. Scattered faint foxing and an occasional small nick in the margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
