Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1845 hardback of 356 pages, printed by Thomas Davison. Undated, but inscription inside front cover dated 1845 in copperplate script, could well be. Humerous sketches , featuring the Stage, First Apperance, Packing an audience, the Green Room, social engagements and etiquette, a Frenchman's Mistake, the Hanging Committee etc. Enchanting, in First Appearance "if a tragedy be selected for this important first appearnce then we rely on the never-failing pathetic author's producing tears, but having three or four fainters at command" The engravings are half page, but are incredibly detailed, of the stage, a galleon, parlour scenes etc.A fascinating glimpse into social history of the early 19th century. Interior otherwise clean and all pages tight within binding. Green board covers a little scuffed, gilt page edges.
