Paperback. Condition: Very Good. In honor of the bicentennial of Henry David Thoreau's birth, this edition of Walden features an introduction and annotations by renowned environmentalist Bill McKibben "Bill McKibben gives us Thoreau's Walden as the gospel of the present moment, as a neccessary book because it is useful right now." --Robert Richardson, author of Henry Thoreau, A Life of the Mind and Emerson: The Mind on Fire "We need to understand that when Thoreau sat in the dooryard of his cabin 'from sunrise till noon, rapt in a revery, in undisturbed solitude and stillness, while the birds sang around or flitted noiseless through the house,' he was offering counsel and example exactly suited for our perilous moment in time." --Bill McKibben, from the introduction First published in 1854, Henry David Thoreau's groundbreaking book has influenced generations of readers and continues to inspire and inform anyone with an open mind, a love of nature, and a longing for simplicity and contemplation. Paperback. Condition: Good. Greek playwright, Aristophanes, lived during the 5th and 4th century BC and is considered one of the principal authors of the Greek classical period. Of the nearly thirty plays he wrote during his career, eleven are extant. Amongst the most famous of these is Lysistrata, a comedy which focuses on the women of Greece whose husbands have left for the Peloponnesian War. The women do not care about the conflict as much as they care about missing their husbands. Its titular character, Lysistrata, insists that men rarely listen to women's reasoning and exclude their opinions on matters of state. In retaliation she convinces the women of Greece to organize a strike, refusing to have sex with their husbands until both sides agree to cease fighting. The irony of this is that the men become more upset with their wives than they do with their enemies of war. Notable for its positive portrayal of women's rationality in a male-dominated society, Lysistrata stands as one the most popular and frequently performed plays from classical antiquity. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper and is translated and annotated by the Athenian Society. …

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This edition has generous sized font and quality paper that will last. Frankenstein is Mary Shelley's classic horror story. To quote from this terrifying and famous tale: One man's life or death were but a small price to pay for the acquirement of the knowledge which I sought, for the dominion I should acquire and transmit over the elemental foes of our race. (Letter 4.21) But it is true that I am a wretch. I have murdered the lovely and the helpless; I have strangled the innocent as they slept and grasped to death his throat who never injured me or any other living thing. What does Mary Shelley's story tell us about the risks and promises of new technology today, especially AI, machine learning and machine communication? This original classic raised questions which are still relevant, and in an engaging ground-breaking novel.…
