Si le lecteur, qui tient en mains ce livre, n'aime pas la légèreté, l'élégance, la grâce, le badinage, s'il ignore que le sérieux est compatible avec la futilité, qu'il ne l'ouvre pas, et qu'il condamn…e son auteur comme il condamnerait les "Illustres Bergers", Théophile, Tristan, ou encore La Fontaine, Marivaux, Choderlos de Laclos Que cet improbable lecteur, que l'imagination ne concevrait pas, si de nombreux critiques n'avaient reproché aux Amours d'Ovide leur légèreté, sans voir leur grâce, leur futilité sans percevoir leur sérieux, que ce lecteur donc évite aussi de regarder les tableaux de Fragonard et qu'il se méfie de Mozart. Si, malgré cet avertissement, il ouvre le livre, qu'il se réjouisse, comme il y est invité par l'épigramme liminaire, que l'édition nouvelle de l'uvre soit plus brève que la première. Aux autres lecteurs, qui aiment Mozart et Fragonard, les « Amours » apportent le plaisir, la "voluptas", que le poète a éprouvé lui-même, en se jouant de tous les lieux communs et de tous les interdits pour révéler les mille et une surprises du désir amoureux et pour harceler sous les flèches de Cupidon la société compassée et hypocrite qui l'entoure. en latin et en français Classiques en poche XXXIX + 202 pages 11 x 18.
