Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Arthur Rackham (illustrator). 1st Edition. *** IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE THE UK YOU MUST CHOOSE PRIORITY MAIL AT CHECKOUT SO I CAN INSURE AND TRACK THE BOOK. IF YOU DO NOT CHOOSE PRIORITY MAIL YOU ORDER WILL BE REFUSED AND I WILL NOT TRADE WITH YOU AGAIN. *** This is a UK first edition hardcover published by William Heinemann in 1907. The photos show the condition better than I can describe, however overall I am grading as Very Good for its age, heading towards Near Fine. The book has a straight spine, sharp corners and firm spine ends, with a lightly sunned spine. The gilt illustration on the front cover is intact and not rubbed and the text on the boards is likewise complete. There is the inevitable page toning to the edges but the interior of the book is clean, aside from the odd fox spot. There is an owner inscription dated 1908 to the front end paper, which promotes Rip Van Winkle on the reverse at 15s net. The title page states there is also a "proem by Austin Dobson" and confirms the publisher as William Heinemann. There is no mention of a publication date anywhere but research confirms this to be 1907. the book has numerous black and white illustrations throughout and has the 13 original colour drawings.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 1915 Silent Film 1ed Alice in Wonderland Carroll + Looking Glass Nonpareil Scenes Lewis Carroll's landmark masterpiece, 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' was first published in 1865. This fascinating fantasy tale of a young girl falling down a rabbit hole, is surely one of the most iconic pieces of literature for all time. It has been adapted into many different versions of film, most notably by Disney in 1951. 'Through the Looking Glass' was published a few years after the success of 'Adventures in Wonderland'. While it was never as popular as 'Alice' it did include "the greatest nonsense poem ever written in the English language, the 'Jabberwocky'" (Gardner). This early 20th-century American edition includes both titles in one binding notable for the full-page 'photo-play' illustrations. These engravings depict scenes from the Nonpareil feature silent film adaptation of Alice.
